A Bitter Reality
As the dream of most parents I had acquired a degree in Software Engineering and joined a company based in USA , the land of braves and opportunity. When I arrived in the USA , it was as if a dream had come true.

Here at last I was in the place where I want to be. I decided Iwould be staying in this country for about Five years in which time I would have earned enough money to settle down in India .
My father was a government employee and after his retirement, the only asset he could acquire was a decent one bedroom flat.

I wanted to do something more than him. I started feeling homesick and lonely as the time passed. I used to call home and speak to my parents every week using cheap international phone cards. Two years passed, two years of Burgers at McDonald’s and pizzas and discos and 2 years watching the foreign exchange rate getting happy whenever the Rupee value went down.

Finally, I decided to get married. Told my parents that I have only 10 days of holidays and everything must be done within these 10 days. I got my ticket booked in the cheapest flight. Was jubilant and was actually enjoying hopping for gifts for all my friends back home. If I miss anyone then there will be talks. After reaching home I spent home one week going through all the photographs of girls and as the time was getting shorter I was forced to select one candidate.

In-laws told me, to my surprise, that I would have to get married in 2-3 days, as I will not get anymore holidays. After the marriage, it was time to return to USA , after giving some money to my parents and telling the neighbours to look after them, we returned to USA .

My wife enjoyed this country for about two months and then she started feeling lonely. The frequency of calling India increased to twice in a week sometimes 3 times a week. Our savings started diminishing.

After two more years we started to have kids. Two lovely kids, a boy and a girl, were gifted to us by the almighty. Every time I spoke to my parents, they asked me to come to India so that they can see their grand-children.

Every year I decide to go to India … But part work part monetary conditions prevented it. Years went by and visiting India was a distant dream. Then suddenly one day I got a message that my parents were seriously sick. I tried but I couldn’t get any holidays and thus could not go to India … The next message I got was my parents had passed away and as there was no one to do the last rights the society members had done whatever they could. I was depressed. My parents had passed away without seeing their grand children.

After couple more years passed away, much to my children’s dis-like and my wife’s joy we returned to India to settle down.I started to look for a suitable property, but to my savings were short and the property prices had gone up during all these years. I had to return to the USA …
My wife refused to come back with me and my children refused to stay in India … My two children and I returned to USA after promising my wife I would be back for good after two years.

Time passed by, my daughter decided to get married to an American and my son was happy living in USA … I decided that had enough and wound-up every thing and returned to India … I had just enough money to buy a decent Touble- bedroom flat in a well-developed locality.

Now I am 60 years old and the only time I go out of the flat is for the routine visit to the nearby temple. My faithful wife has also left me and gone to the holy abode.

Sometimes
I wondered was it worth all this?
My father, even after staying in India ,
Had a house to his name and I too have the same nothing more.
I lost my parents and children for just ONE EXTRA BEDROOM.
Looking out from the window I see a lot of children dancing.
This damned cable TV has spoiled our new generation and these children are losing their values and culture because of it. I get occasional cards from my children asking I am alright. Well at least they remember me.
Now perhaps after I die it will be the neighbors again who will be performing my last rights/rituals, God Bless them.

But the question still remains ‘was all this worth it?’
I am still searching for an answer !!
START THINKING...
IS IT JUST FOR ONE EXTRA BED ROOM??
LIFE IS BEYOND THIS...
DON’T JUST LEAVE YOUR LIFE ...
START LIVING IT …
LIVE IT AS THE WAY YOU WANT IT TO BE …
"Quality living is essential..
It is only for the People who aware..
They are the Blessed people."

How Old Is the Earth ?

In the very beginning of earth’s history, this planet was a giant, red hot, roiling, boiling sea of molten rock - a magma ocean. The heat had been generated by the repeated high speed collisions of much smaller bodies of space rocks that continually clumped together as they collided to form this planet. As the collisions tapered off the earth began to cool, forming a thin crust on its surface. As the cooling continued, water vapor began to escape and condense in the earth’s early atmosphere. Clouds formed and storms raged, raining more and more water down on the primitive earth, cooling the surface further until it was flooded with water, forming the seas.It is theorized that the true age of the earth is about 4.6 billion years old, formed at about the same time as the rest of our solar system.
The oldest rocks geologists have been able to find are 3.9 billion years old. Using radiometric dating methods to determine the age of rocks means scientists have to rely on when the rock was initially formed (as in - when its internal minerals first cooled). In the infancy of our home planet the entire earth was molten (melted) rock, a magma ocean.Since we can only measure as far back in time as we had solid rock on this planet, we are limited in how we can measure the real age of the earth. Due to the forces of plate tectonics, our planet is also a very dynamic one; new mountains forming, old ones wearing down, volcanoes melting and reshaping new crust. The continual changing and reshaping of the earth’s surface that involves the melting down and reconstructing of old rock has pretty much eliminated most of the original rocks that came with earth when it was newly formed. So the age is a theoretical age.
When Did Life on Earth Begin?
Scientists are still trying to unravel one of the greatest mysteries of earth: When did “life” first appear and how did it happen? It is estimated that the first life forms on earth were primitive, one-celled creatures that appeared about 3 billion years ago. That’s pretty much all there was for about the next two billion years. Then suddenly those single celled organisms began to evolve into multicellular organisms. Then an unprecedented profusion of life in incredibly complex forms began to fill the oceans. Some crawled from the seas and took residence on land, perhaps to escape predators in the ocean. A cascading chain of new and increasingly differentiated forms of life appeared all over the planet, only to be virtually annihilated by an unexplained mass extinction. It would be the first of several mass extinctions in Earth’s history.

Where do Gemstones come from?
Scientists have been looking increasingly to space to explain these mass extinctions that have been happening almost like clockwork since the beginning of “living” time. Perhaps we’ve been getting periodically belted by more space rocks (ie. asteroids), or the collision of neutron stars happening too close for comfort? Each time a mass extinction occurred, life found a way to come back from the brink. Life has tenaciously clung to this small blue planet for the last three billion years. Scientists are finding new cues as to how life first began on earth in some really interesting places - the deep ocean.

Checking the Fossil Record
Scientists have studied rocks using radiometric dating methods to determine the age of earth. Another really cool thing they’ve found in rocks that tells us more about the story of earth’s past are the remains of living creatures that have been embedded in the rocks for all time. We call these fossils. It has been the careful study of earth’s fossil record that has revealed the exciting picture about the kinds of creatures that once roamed this planet. Fossilized skeletons of enormous creatures with huge claws and teeth, ancient ancestors of modern day species (such as sharks) that have remained virtually unchanged for millions of years, and prehistoric jungles lush with plant life, all point to a profusion of life and a variety of species that continues to populate the earth, even in the face of periodic mass extinctions.By studying the fossil record scientists have determined that the earth has experienced very different climates in the past. In fact, general climactic conditions, as well as existing species, are used to define distinct geologic time periods in earth’s history. For example, periodic warming of the earth - during the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods - created a profusion of plant and animal life that left behind generous organic materials from their decay. These layers of organic material built up over millions of years undisturbed. They were eventually covered by younger, overlying sediment and compressed, giving us fossil fuels such as coal, petroleum and natural gas.
Alternately, the earth’s climate has also experienced periods of extremely cold weather for such prolonged periods that much of the surface was covered in thick sheets of ice. These periods of geologic time are called ice ages and the earth has had several in its history. Entire species of warmer-climate species died out during these time periods, giving rise to entirely new species of living things which could tolerate and survive in the extremely cold climate. Believe it or not, humans were around during the last ice age - the Holocene (about 11,500 years ago) - and we managed to survive. Creatures like the Woolly Mammoth - a distant relative of modern-day elephants - did not.Read about a really exciting recent find of a perfectly-preserved, frozen Woolly Mammoth! This was a particularly exciting find because it wasn’t a fossil that scientists found, but actual tissue, which still has its DNA record intact. Also, read more about the Ice Man - another frozen tissue sample of a human being who was frozen into the high mountains of France. He was just recently discovered as thousands of years of ice pack have finally melted from around his body.

TRUST

" Trust is something which has to be earned with actions but not with words.
A person who trusts other may not question any action performed by other.
A trustworthy person need not prove any actions performed by him/her. He or she need not justify his/her actions because other person is asking or questioning.
Infact, there should not be any questioning of each others action.
When a person says I trust you, he or she should mean it.
Trust is basic quality of a true love.
True love means trust / faith in each other without any reservations

HOW TO USE CELL PHONES?

'Cell Phone – Suggested Practices for use'

Suggested Practice No 1:-
If you have your cell phone turned on in meetings, restaurants, theaters etc set it to vibrate if it is next to impossible to switch it off. If you have to attend to a call, excuse yourself and answer your phone in a private corner. It is suggested to use SMS during the meetings, if there is any emergency or urgency, sometime backward integration of technology i.e. using cell phone as Pager serves very useful purpose. Senior Officer may like to advise subordinates & Secretary to use SMS while they are on tour or in a meeting.

Never shout. If the background noise is disturbing, go to a quieter place. If the problem is a bad connection, talking louder will not help so just end the call and try again from a place where the reception is better.

Be considerate of people standing or sitting near you. When choosing a spot to take or make a call, make sure you are far enough away from other people & that they are not forced to listen to your conversation.

Suggested Practice No 2:-
Never talk while driving a vehicle. It is not only risky but also unlawful to talk while driving. If you have to attend to a call, just pull over on the side. Make sure it is a parking zone.

Pay attention to the road. If it is inevitable start using the ear phone, which makes it much easier to focus on driving. One should also be careful to limit conversations in cars to traffic areas and conditions requiring low amounts of decision-making. In high volume, tricky driving situations, it is better to either turn the phone off or lets it ring.

Suggested Practice No 3:-
Volume - Speak softly. The cell user should be careful to speak in hushed tones, knowing that a mobile phone has a sensitive microphone capable of picking up a soft voice.

The cell user also sets the ring tone at a low level with a tune that is soft, gentle and not annoying. The more crowded the situation, the quieter and softer the volume of voice and ring. The cell user moves to vibrate in any situation like a workshop or a meeting where a ringing sound would prove disturbing to other people. The cell user should try to gain as little phone attention as possible. The goal is to communicate effectively without anybody else noticing or caring.

Some people seem incapable of speaking on their cell phone in a normal tone of voice. Perhaps they are subconsciously worried that the party on the other end cannot hear them very well, so they double and triple their volume. Sometimes it seems as if they are shouting.

Suggested Practice no 4:-
Proximity - Keep your distance. Each person is surrounded by a personal space. This space provides feelings of safety and calm, especially in crowded places. The smart cell phone user respects the personal space of other people and tries to speak in places 10-20 feet or more away from the closest person.

If there is no private, separate space available, the smart cell phone user waits to speak on the phone until a good space is available. Sensitivity to other peoples’ needs and comforts is a sign of good character. Crowded rooms, lines and tight hallways are not good places to carry on phone conversations.

Next time you find yourself in a crowded space, watch the reactions of non mobile phone users to those who speak loudly into their phones while standing next to them.

Suggested Practice no 5:-
Content - Keep business private. Many personal and business conversations contain information that should remain confidential or private. Before using a mobile phone in a public location to discuss private business or issues, the cell users should make sure that there will be enough distance to keep the content private. Some stories, some issues and some conflicts should be saved for times and locations that will allow for confidentiality.

Suggested Practice no 6:-
Tone - Keep a civil and pleasant tone. The cell users should know that others might overhear a conversation, so they are careful to maintain a public voice that will not disturb others. At the same time, the cell user should know that certain types of conversations may require or inspire some tough talk or emotional tones. They reserve these conversations for more private settings.
They do not fire employees, chastise employees, argue with a boss or fight with a spouse or teenager on their mobile phones in public settings.

Suggested Practice no 7:-
Location - Pick your spot. Some locations are better for conversations than others. They offer more privacy and less noise. By keeping the mobile phone turned off much of the time, the smart cell phone user is able to handle incoming calls under good conditions rather than struggling against interference of various kinds such as flight announcements in the hallways of an airport.
The cell users must learn, which spot will offer the best signal and the best conditions. Rather than hold an important business discussion or negotiation under poor conditions, the careful cell users should wait for good conditions in order to make the best impression and provide a professional communication experience.

Suggested Practice no – 8:-
Timing - No cell phone before it’s time. The cell users must have think about when to turn the phone on or off. There are many situations where it would be rude if a phone rang, interrupting the transaction at hand. Stepping up to a service counter, entering a restaurant or joining a meeting, the cell savvy user turn off the phone and relies upon voice mail to take incoming calls.
There may be sometimes when a particular incoming call or message requires an exception, but the vast majority of callers do not require immediate access.
carboy

Suggested Practice no – 9:-
Multi-Tasking - One thing at a time. Some folks are better at juggling many tasks at the same time than others, but there are some things in life that deserve your full attention. The busy person multi-tasking at a desk can be a wonderful model of efficiency, handling, phone, keyboard, tea cup and remote control all at the same time, but at other times, multi-tasking can be hazardous, rude and inefficient.

The above practices have been evolved over the period through interactions and experiences and require practicing them more than only registering them. Let us give our best.

CHILDREN EDICATION - "READING"

More than any other skill, the ability to read and read well allows a child to succeed in school, learn about the world, and to function in society. Children who learn to love books will be children who grow up to be good readers. The very best time for children to learn to love books is while they are young. Keep a supply of books and other reading materials where children can reach them. Add new books as children’s skills and interests change.

SUCCESS IN SCHOOL STARTS WITH READING.

When children become good readers in the early grades, they are far more likely to become better learners throughout their school years and beyond. Read to your children every day, Spend time talking about stories, pictures, and words. Read with expression. And choose books your children will enjoy! Create happy, warm, enjoyable times so children look forward to books and reading with enjoyment and interest. Continue to read with your children each and every day.

There are hundreds of “new” books that your children will enjoy - available at book stores and at your local library. Continue to provide familiar books and new books to keep reading enjoyable and interesting. Help children understand what they are reading.

GROW YOUR HAPPINESS

Happiness does not consist in pastimes and
amusements but in virtuous activities.

- Aristotle

Count Your Blessings

I've never made a fortune,
and it's probably too late now.
But I don't worry about that much,
I'm happy anyhow.

And as I go along life's way,
I'm reaping better than I sowed.
I'm drinking from my saucer,
'Cause my cup has overflowed.
I remember times when things went wrong,
My faith wore some what thin.
But all at once the dark clouds broke,
and the sun peeped through again.

And may I never be too busy,
to help others bear their loads.
When I think of how many people in this world
have it worse than I do.
I realize just how blessed most of us really are

SEVEN Reasons the world will end in 2012.
  • Scientific experts from around the world are genuinely predicting that five years from now, all life on Earth could well finish.
  • Some are saying it'll be humans that set it off.
  • Others believe that a natural phenomenon will be the cause.
  • And the religious folks are saying it'll be God himself who presses the stop button...

No one manages money perfectly

In general most of us have made the same mistake several times. If this is the case, there is something important to be learned from this type of mistake and when you learn it, you will no longer need to keep making it.

  • Here are some mistakes that we commonly make : Do any one of them strike you ?
  • Splashing out on something which turns out to be a dud, such as timeshare holiday apartment you hardly, if ever, use or an expensive outfit you never actually wear.
  • Spending more than you earn and having to borrow to make up a difference.
  • Investing in something which goes bust or loses value badly like situation right now. Recession era.
  • Thinking that spending money will make you feel better. There is lot of way to feel better. Just stick to this blog and I will reveal the secrets.
  • Taking on financial responsibilities taht you thing you can handle but then finding that they're just to expensive and you kept worrying about it. Like buying an expensive house. You think that is an in investment but somehow it ate the most out of you.
  • Lending money that you know that you'll never get it back
  • * Try to avoid using any debt card expecially if it's a revolving card because you risk to be trapped in a never ending vicious circle of indebtment.(*from - Marina comment)

    So, how to avoid it?
  • Think very carefully before you spend a large sum of money.
  • Impulse buy with only a little money.
  • Before you go out to buy something, think how much you can afford and only take that amount with you in cash.
  • When you take on the responsibilities of a mortgage eg : house, work out what you think you could afford, then reduce it by third. It's better to have money to spare than to be trapped with costs you can't handle.
  • Never lend money that you can't afford to lose. If your friend needs to borrow some money, just give them 10 or 50 dollars and if your friend ask for more then say politely to them "If something happen and you can't pay me back, i rather loose the money than loosing our friendship"
  • If in doubt about any purchase, resist the temptation
