UNEMPLOYED DATA IN AMERICA

An Unemployed Nation!

The number of unemployed Americans increased by 603,000 in October to 10.1 million —The largest number since 1983.

More than 22 percent of all unemployed people have been out of work for six months
or longer — another level not reached in a quarter-century.

With plunging housing prices, tight credit and shrinking paychecks we are in a downward spiral. Companies have been hiring tepidly and laying off workers throughout the year, the so-called underemployment rate — which includes people working part-time for lack of full-time positions and those who have given up looking for work — rose to 11.8 percent, up from 8.4 percent a year earlier.Labor Department News Release on Employment“What you see now is this cascading of unemployment moving from hours cut to hiring freezes to layoffs,” said Jared Bernstein, senior economist at the labor-oriented Economic Policy Institute in Washington. “At this point, we have a very toxic combination of all of the above. There’s almost no economic activity out there that’s going to generate jobs right now.

This is the front edge of the deeper trough of the recession. It’s going to get worse before it gets better.” Wages have effectively shrunk for most workers, as rising costs for food and fuel have more than absorbed meager increases in pay. In October, weekly wages for rank-and-file workers — those not in supervisory or managerial positions — grew 2.9 percent from October 2007, almost certainly below the rate of inflation.

The health care industry and public schools were the only fields that showed more than modest growth last month. Some 90,000 manufacturing jobs disappeared. So did 49,000 construction jobs. Retail lost 38,000 jobs in October. The financial industry shed 24,000. The annual pace of auto sales fell off in October, down 15 percent compared to September, according to analysis from Goldman Sachs.

Consumer spending dropped between July and September — the first quarterly decline in 17 years. On Thursday, major retailers reported a sharp pullback in sales in October, presaging what is likely to be the weakest holiday spending in many years.

The widely watched Institute for Supply Management survey fell in October to depths last seen 26 years ago, reflecting shrinking industrial activity and suggesting weakening demand for goods as the economy slows. Banks continued to tighten their wallets in October.

NAIL WATCH-A NEW PRODUCT

PRODUCT- Nail Watch

I HAVE COME TO KNOW ABOUT THIS NAIL WATCH WHILE WATCHING ON THE NET.
SO LIKE TO PASS UNTO THE READERS.

The Timex Nail Watch: Get the Time on Your nails
We have seen many different types of futuristic watches with strange shapes and design but none so unique as this. Now lets welcome the Nail watch, that can be worn on the thumb. You may have never seen a watch that can be worn on the thumb but times are going to change thanks to Timex. Timex, in collaboration with Core77, held a global design competition called 2154: the future of time design. So what we are seeing here is the TX54 concept which was a runner up there.

Thanks to a translucent body, the design blends seamlessly with the nail while a selection of text color options and a glow feature activating on command make it supremely functional as well. Press the end of your thumbnail, and the watch will light up for you. A perfect blend of appearance, user interface, and technology, the nail watch passes most standards of modern design with flying colors thanks to its functional and minimalist appeal. The watch looks stylish and chic and has a touch of Geeky style as well. The downside of this watch is that it is disposable. So with so many stylish watched being available now, it will be hard for it to survive in the market. Though it is quite innovative with a minimalist design, but it won't last long on your finger. No details about the availability or the price of this watch has been released by Timex. But since it is tiny and disposable, I don't expect the price to be high.

An interview with ad guru, K V Sridhar
National Creative Director of
Leo Burnett India Pvt. Ltd.
Popularly knows as ‘Pops’, he hails from Hyderabad and has made India proud by creating award-winning campaigns that have floored juries at all advertising festivals, including Cannes. Read on.
Q: How did it all started - your glorious journey into advertising?
KVS: Way back, in 1979, I had three career options to choose from:
1. Medical Representative; 2. Drawing Teacher; 3. Finishing Artist in Advertising. I chose the third because of my academics.
After completing my B. Sc from Osmania University and, I went on to do graduation in fine arts from Gulbarga, and somehow I felt advertising deals with both science and art. I had no clue about commercial art or advertising, till I met-up with a future guru and dear friend called Rohini Kumar (a distant cousin), who taught me the basics of graphic design and art direction.

Later I joined ASP as an unpaid trainee and was elevated to finishing artist, illustrator, visualizer and art director all in a span of 18 months. I quit ASP as they refused to transfer me to Account management. That’s how I started my journey into advertising.

Q: You started your advertising career with Ulka, Hyderabad before you moved to Mumbai – the Mecca of Indian advertising and made it big there. How were those early days of advertising in Hyderabad?
KVS: When I started advertising around late 70’s there were only two big agencies ASP (Birla-owned) and FDS. And a handful of clients such as ECIL, Hyderabad Asbestos, IDPL, BHEL, and Ampro biscuits most of the business used to be around industrial products and tender notices. Pharma used to be very big. No one knew about advertising including the one’s working in it. Connections were important in getting the business and those were the glorious 15% commission days therefore life was cool.I started with ASP, and then moved to Topads as business head. Later, I partnered with Laxmiram Reddy to start Priyadarshini Advertising, followed by stints with Ulka, Hyderabad and HTA Bangalore before moving to Mumbai in 1992.

Q: “Hyderabad is for people who want to get up at nine in the morning, stroll into office and have a cup of tea. It's not for someone with fire in his belly. I'd give anything to be able to live there but in the profession I am in, I think I'll go mad if I did." This is what Mohammed Khan; another advertising legend from Hyderabad has to say. What’s your take?
KVS: He was right; those days it was a lazy city, with lazy people content with what they have. And had no real ambition. But today is different. I see more fire and energy in the city and its people. I love this Hyderabad.
Q: You had a magical partnership going with your copy partner – K S Chakravarthy or ‘Chax’ as he’s popularly known. What made you part ways?
KVS: I don’t think we parted ways, I think partnership is all about pushing each other and kicking butt when needed. We still keep doing that. The reason why we work in different companies is sheer economics we both now have become white elephants and no one agency can afford us.
Q: Pops, you are known as the man with the Midas touch and you have this amazing ability of getting the best out of people. What makes you tick?
KVS: If you want to shine like a moon than you must let the stars shine! I think that’s the mantra.

Q: Creativity is an in-born talent or can it be ingrained? How do the environment and early influences contribute in shaping creativity?
KVS: I do not think there is anything called in-born talent, we acquire every thing, all of us play, sing, write and paint right? While some continue to play will go on to become Tendulkar’s others who continue to write may go on to become Prasoon Joshi’s. It’s all about early influences in life and what you feel passionate about.
Creativity in advertising is quite different from others. In advertising we use life’s experiences and observations to connect with people, this simple act makes us creative. If you love life and have an ability to understand human behavior you could be the most celebrated creative guy. This business deals with people and their behavior.
Q: In between, you were supposed to head overseas. Many advertising professionals from Indian have taken up the challenge and proved that we can flourish anywhere. Sonal Dabral, Jaggi, Bobby Pawar, Parag Tembulkar, to name a few. Wasn’t it a greater challenge to play in a bigger league?
KVS: Yes, I was supposed to in late 90’s, I almost took the regional job in Asia, what made me change my mind is; when my 8 year old son Saketh questioned me “would Tendulkar play for Australia and win a world cup for them?” That made me think how much more one could do in our own country before one sets off to conquer the world.Yes! Indeed it is a challenge and we have enough talent to excel. Today game has changed; India is too big and important, if you are playing in India than you are playing in the big league.
Q: Shyamsunder Goud, again, is from Hyderabad and is a hot-shot Creative Director. His career took off when he was with Leo Burnett under your aegis. It would have been a proud moment for you when he started picking up metals at major festivals.
KVS: I am proud of Shyam. I gave him a job in Leo Burnett not because he is from Hyderabad; he had the fire and passion to be somebody. And today all his ideas are worth in Gold. As I said earlier, the more metals he picks the more I shine.

Q: Your five all-time favorite campaigns?
KVS: “Hutch Boy”, “Saint Gobain- Black Women”, “Happydent-Palace”,
“Cadbury-Girl dancing”, “Luxor- Che”

Q: Singapore, South Africa, Brazil, Thailand… is it India’s time, going by the awards Indians have been picking up over the last few years, finally?
KVS: In a way - yes! It would be difficult for the world to ignore us considering the number of entries we send. We have been doing better than before. I think we still have a very long way to go, we may win many awards as individual agencies but as a nation and culture we need to find a voice, which is a reflection of us. Like the way South America, and Thailand found theirs.

Q: You keep visiting Hyderabad. Which are your fave hangout places?
KVS: Minerva Coffee Shop, Dakshin and Kuchipudi. I love and live for Andhra vegetarian food.
Q: After the Cannes haul, you declared that ‘You would be happy to retire now!’ Were you serious?
KVS: Not yet. I had spent all my life proving to white men that we are as good as them but this year at Cannes we proved that we are better and in future would show the way to the world. Seeing my boys - Agnello and Santosh Paddy - taking the center stage at the recently concluded Cannes Festival is the most gratifying moment of my life, if I have to bargain my retirement for a day like that I would do so gladly.
Q: Painting is a big passion with you. Any plans of holding exhibitions or turning into a full-time painter?
KVS: I will give it a serious thought once I retire, maybe in five years time from now.

Q: Any advice for youngsters who want to get into advertising?
KVS: Only qualifications one needs to be in advertising is understanding of human behavior and knowing what could possibly change, influence or alter it.

BIOGRAPHY OF M. NIGHT SHYAMALAN

REAL NAME: MANOJ NELLIYATTU SHYAMALAN
BIRTH PLACE: PONDICHERRY, INDIA
OCCUPATION: MOVIE DIRECTOR (HOLLY WOOD)

Born in India but raised in the posh suburban Penn Valley area of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, M. Night Shyamalan is the son of two doctors. His passion for filmmaking began when he was given a Super-8 camera at age eight, and even at that young age began to model his career on that of his idol,Steven Spielberg. His first film, Praying with Anger(1992), was based somewhat on his own trip back to visit the India of his birth. He raised all the funds for this project, in addition to directing, producing and starring in it.Wide Awake(1998), his second film, he wrote and directed, and shot it in the Philadelphia-area Catholic school he once attended--even though his family was of a different religion, they sent him to that school because of its strict discipline.

M. Night Shyamalan (born Manoj Nelliyattu Shyamalan, on August 6, 1970 in Pondicherry, India) is a screen writer and director. He is best known for his work on the movies 'The Sixth Sense',' Unbreakable', 'Signs', and 'The Village'.

Hallmarks of Shyamalan's films include unexpected plot twists, realistic treatment of horror or science fiction themes, camera shots taken at unique angles, and a cameo appearance by Shyamalan himself in each film. His movies are also noted for their sharp screen play, effective background score, and film editing. The movie The Sixth Sense, which tells about a boy's interaction with spirits, hardly used computer animation or a loud background score. On each of Shyamalan's DVDs is also a short home movie made when he was a youngster, which are often as humorous as they are intriguing.

Shyamalan was raised in Penn Valley, Pennsylvania, United States a suburb of Philadelphia after his doctor parents emigrated to the United States. Shyamalan attended New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. It was here that he made up his middle name, Night. Shyamalan is married to Bhavna.

A recent "documentary" about his life, aired on the Sci-Fi Channel, claimed that Shyamalan was legally dead for nearly a half hour while drowned in a frozen pond in a childhood accident, and that upon being rescued he has had experiences of communicating with spirits. The Sci-Fi Channel also claimed that Shyamalan had grown angry when he had discovered that the documentary would reveal certain personal secrets, and had therefore withdrawn from participating. The Sci-Fi Channel later admitted that both the "documentary" itself and Shyamalan's objections to it were part of a hoax, perpetrated with Shyamalan's participation.

With the exception of his first film Praying with Anger (1992) which was filmed in Chennai, all of Shyamalan's movies have been filmed either in Philadelphia or elsewhere in the state of Pennsylvania.

JAPAN TOO JOINS IN RECESSION

TOKYO - Japan sank into recession in the third quarter, even before it felt the full force of the financial crisis, and world leaders at a weekend summit gave investors little hope they could rescue the global economy. With the euro zone also in recession, the U.S. economy shrinking in the third quarter and China slowing sharply, markets shrugged off pledges to stimulate growth from leaders of the Group of 20 nations.

The yen and U.S. dollar pressed higher as investors pulled cash away from emerging markets and riskier assets. Oil fell more than $1 to below $56 a barrel and stock markets slid in early Asian trading. While the Japanese economy was weakening, the pace of the decline was unexpected. Analysts polled by Reuters had predicted the economy would expand 0.1 percent. Instead it shrank by 0.1 percent as exports crumbled faster than they had thought. The third-quarter data did not capture the full impact of the crisis that exploded in September, destroying Wall Street banks and threatening to rupture the global financial system.

Japan had largely escaped the first shockwaves of the crisis triggered last year by U.S. mortgage defaults. It felt the first major tremors in October when the Tokyo stock market crashed forcing banks to try to replenish capital and the yen surged, sideswiping exporters facing their toughest markets in decades."I think that it is possible for the negative growth to continue in the second half of the fiscal year," said Tatsushi Shikano, a senior economist at Tokyo's Mitsubishi UFJ Securities."The economy abroad, especially the United States, is slowing down and it is likely that exports will remain weak," he said.

Last week G20 summit failed to deliver any new stimulus measures to rescue the world economy from the current recession, but at least it avoided the knee-jerk responses (such as rushed regulation) that would have made things worse," Julian Jessop at London-based Capital Economics said in a report.

'THE CAMEL AND BABY CAMEL'

A Thought
A mother and a baby camel were lazing around, and suddenly the baby camel asked

Baby : Mother, mother, may I ask you some questions?
Mother : Sure! Why son, is there something bothering you?
Baby : Why do camels have those great big humps on their backs ?
Mother : Well son, we are desert animals, we need the humps to store water and we
are known to survive without water.... We can go on long treks across the deserts
without drinking for extended periods...
Baby : Okay, then why are our legs long and our feet rounded, wiith those huge three toed feet ?
Mother : Son, obviously they are meant for walking in the desert. They help you stay on top of the soft sand... You know with these legs I can move around the desert better than anyone does ! Said the mother proudly.
Baby : Okay, then why are our eyelashes long? Sometimes it bothers my sight.
Mother : My son, those long thick eyelashes are your protective cover. They help to protect your eyes from the desert sand and wind.
Said mother camel with eyes gleaming with pride....
Baby : I see. So the hump is to store water when we are in the desert, the legs are for walking through the desert sand and these eye lashes protects my eyes from the desert winds.... But Mom.....
Mother : (Getting a little impatient...) Tell me boy, something is still bothering you... ????
Baby : Then Mom... what the hell are we doing here in this goddamn Zoo ?
MORAL OF THE STORY :
"Skills, knowledge, abilities and experiences are of value only
if you are at the right place"

A Nice Article about Love
This article was written by Swami Vivekananda

I once had a friend who grew to be very close to me.
Once when we were sitting at the edge of a swimming pool,
she filled the palm of her hand with some water and held it before me,
and said this: "You see this water carefully contained on my hand?
It symbolizes Love."

This was how I saw it: As long as you keep your hand caringly open
and allow it to remain there, it will always be there. However,
if you attempt to close your fingers round it and try to posses it,
it will spill through the first cracks it finds.
This is the greatest mistake that people do when they meet love...
they try to posses it, they demand, they expect...
and just like the water spilling out of your hand, love will retrieve from you .

For love is meant to be free, you cannot change its nature.
If there are people you love, allow them to be free beings.
Give and don't expect.
Advise, but don't order.
Ask, but never demand.
It might sound simple, but it is a lesson that may take a lifetime to truly practice.
It is the secret to true love.

To truly practice it, you must sincerely feel no expectations from those
who you love, and yet an unconditional caring.
"Passing thought...

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take;
but by the moments that take our breath away...

Life is beautiful!!! Live it !!!

AN ARTICLE BY LEADING ECONOMIST

THE TIDAL WAVE
"The Global Meltdown"

LATELY, I have been thinking a lot about the Lehman crisis. Spending money that they didn't have and going beyond their means is one of the main reasons for their situation today. In fact that is the cause for the current economic crisis in the US.

When I see all this happening, I can only remember the good old days. Then, karz was bad. People looked down upon those who took loans. Parents would not give their daughter's hand in marriage to a man with loans.

But of course, the times have changed now. Everyone I know has a loan. The buzz word is EMI (equated monthly instalment). Today, you can buy everything on EMI - a house, a television, even an i-Pod. In fact I know of someone who just bought a fancy BMW 3 series on EMI, instead of buying a cheaper car outright with cash. I mostly prefer to take public transport, but then I am an old man with old thoughts!
Anyway, coming back to what caused the crisis.

Imagine having Rs 2 lakh in your bank account, no regular income, yet buying a house worth Rs 65 lakh, in the hope of selling it for a higher price. Even if the price of the house fell by just 5% (that is Rs 3 lakh), you will go bankrupt. This is what Lehman Brothers did; with around USD 20 billion they went and bought assets worth over USD 600 billion. Isn't it suicidal and simply foolish?
I am sure things would have been different, had I been the head of Lehman brothers. But who wants an old conservative man like me to head a complex financial institution.
But there are a few lessons that we can learn:

Live a balanced life and avoid overspending.
Don't buy things we don't need.
Don't buy Branded goods. d

Don't buy excess Food, Cloths, Cosmetics, Footwear, electronics and Fashion accuracies just think before you buy.

Tips: World still has a lot of growth ahead and the future holds immense opportunities for us. Let us make the most of it and save and invest it wisely instead of wasting our precious little on things we don't need.

  • Try to balance life with work (No one is happy to work in their professions).

  • Don't stress out yourself, after work try to do some extra activities like swimming, yoga, walking, running where you can divert your mind from stress.
A thumb rule: Health is more important than money.

  • Try to understand each other (Wife and Husband) in financial matters and help each other. Tip: As soon as you get your monthly salary, set aside a fixed amount, usually 35 per cent, for insurance, savings and investments. You can then spend the rest.

  • Not all loans are bad. Loans that are 'need based' (home loans, education loans) can always find a place in your finances against those that are largely 'want based' (Credit cards, personal loans, car loans).

  • Borrow only if repayment is financially comfortable.
A thumb rule: Keep EMIs within 35 to 45 per cent of your monthly income .
  • In that respect, there is one American who I really respect - Warren Buffet.

  • He has lived in the same ordinary house for over three decades, drives his own medium sized car and leads an extremely regular 'middle class' life. If that's all it takes for the richest person on earth to be happy, why do all of us need to take extra stress just so that we can get things which aren't even essential?
THANKS MR.GANESH.(RECIVED FORM AN E.MAIL)

THE GENIUS

The Born Genius
This is the story of Muzakkir Sharieff, son of a poor father. He is now an 'Aviation Designer'.
But, how he becomes one of those is what that really matters to me.

His first design, he called it " Passion for Success (PFS-1)." It was a light combat aircraft weighing 100 kg powered by his father's Bajaj scooter engine and supported by his mother's meagre pension. All this out of his humble home in uptown Banglore. He has spent Rs. 10,000 so far on his plane, even using a couple of old chairs to support the wings. He has only one dream.." To fly his Passion".

He has been rewarded by HAL by offering him as a Trainee in the Helicopter Division. And also offered to fund his education. In addition, hyderabad-based Mannan Institute of Science and Technology has offered him an engineering seat with full scholarship and hostel facilities.

It's all his inborn qualities and determination.one need to identify the potential within,he is one such person who identified himself very well at the early age.Best wishes for him and his future Endeavours.

"WORK FOR YOUR PASSION AND KNOW HOW TO GET INTO YOUR PASSION AND BRIDGE YOUR PASSION INTO YOUR WORK,TAHN IT IS NO MORE A WORK.IT IS SIMPLY A WORSHIP"

POOR PEOPLE OF THE WORLD

Poor? Who's poor? Poverty is down
The proportion of people living on less than $1 a day decreased from 40 to 21 per cent of the global population between 1981 and 2001, says the World Bank's latest annual report.

The president of the bank, James Wolfensohn, said in his overall review that the past year had brought with it signs of hope and progress, but it had also brought signs of concern in the fight against global poverty.

On a positive note, new data this year showed that the number of poor people continues to fall. Development indicators were clearly improving in countries that had laid good foundations for growth.

The progress, though, was uneven across the globe. Growth in East Asia had meant that there were 500 million fewer people living below one dollar a day in 2001 than in 1981.

The number of poor people had also fallen in South Asia and in the Middle East and North Africa, though less dramatically than in East Asia.

However, the absolute number of poor people had risen in African, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Europe and Central Asia.
Wolfensohn recalled his statement at the last annual meeting that the world he 'saw today was a world out of balance.' Of the six billion people of the world today, one billion people live in wealthy countries. They accounted for 80 per cent of the world's gross domestic product, while the other 5 billion have 20 per cent.
While rich countries spent $700 billion a year on defence and transferred $325 billion to agriculture, they devoted only $68 billion as developmental aid.

These global imbalances are reflected in the daily lives of poor people around the world. Two billion people have no access to clean water, 115 million children never get the chance to go to school, and some 38 million people -- 95 per cent of them in developing countries -- are HIV-positive, with little hope of receiving treatment.

Most of the global development goals will not be met in most countries by the 2015 deadline,
the report said -
"So the world is at a tipping point: either we in the international community recommit to delivering on the goals, or the targets we set in a fanfare of publicity will be missed, the world's poor will be left even further behind, and our children will be left to face the consequences," said Wolfensohn.

HEY KRISHNA

In the Yadava Kingdom, King Surasena ruled over Mathura City. His descendant was Ugarasena, and his son was the notorious Kamsa, feared for his tyranny over the land. Ugrasena's younger was Devaka, who had a daughther called Devaki. She was married to Vasudeva, son of Sura a noble of Mathura. After the wedding ceremony, the couple return to Vasudeva's home. Devaki's elder cousin Kamsa himself took the reins and escorted his sister.
As they were going through the forest, a voice from the sky laughed and spoke to Kamsa. "O foolish king, who do you ride home? The very sister and her husband whose eighth son who is going to kill you?" Kamsa became petrified with fear and that very moment he stopped the chariot and took his sword to kill Devaki. Vasudeva entreated with Kamsa and begged him to spare her, in turn he promised to hand over all their children to Kamsa as soon as they were born. Kamsa relented and threw the couple into the dungeon with fetter on their hands and feet.
Vasudeva and Devaki begot of six sons, each of whom Kamsa killed. Such a cruelty and such was the fear of his own impending death. When Devaki conceived the seventh child, who was none other than Sesha the Serpant Couch of the Vishnu, the lord commanded Yogamaya the power of his trance sleep to appear and remove the womb of Devaki and plant it in Rohini, Vasudeva's other wife who was living in Braj on the other bank of Yamuna, under the care of the cowherd Vassai Chieftain Nanda. When Devaki lost her womb, they all thought that the child was dead even before birth, but in fact, he was born to Rohini as Balarama and was growing up with Nanda.
Devaki conceived her eigth child. This was Krishna, on the asterism of Rohini in the monsoon season . Krishna was born at midnight when all the guards had fallen asleep. So radiant was his frame, complete with Shanka, Chakra and all the divine ornanments that Devaki immediately recongnized the child as none other than the Lord Vishnu himself, born to her in human form. She feared that Kamsa too may recongnize the child, so to appease her fear, the Lord withdrew the Shanka, Chakra and four arms and appeared as an ordinary child.
A miracle happened. The doors of the dungeon opened and the Lord commanded Vasudeva to transfer him to the home of yhe cowherd Chieftain Nanda and his wife Yasoda across the river. Vasudeva placed the child on a winnow basket and waded across the swollen river. The river would rise alarmingly, but subside immediately on the touching of the Lord's feet.
Vasudeva reached Nanda's home Brindhadvana on the outskirts of Braj. At the same time, Devaki begot Krishna; Yasoda too begot a female child, who was none other than Yogamaya. Exhausted from the labour, Yasoda lay sleeping. Vasudeva placed the child Krishna bye her side and returned with the female child Yogamay. He re-entered the dungeon and the doors closed. The child cried and guard woke up. They ran to Kamsa and told him birth of another child to Devaki. Kamsa hastily entered the dungeon all disheveled and cruelly picked up the child by its feet, to hit it against a rock. But Lord and behold, the child did not fall down but flew up laughing. "O fool, the child who is destined to kill you is alive and living elsewhere". Kamsa's fears grew worse and he thought of ways to kill his tormentor. He ordered that all childeren born then before or after should be killed all over the land.

'THE FAULT FINDER'

Don't Be Cynical - 'TheFault Finder'

Avoid Fault finding. As people of Faith, we have the duty of commanding good and forbidding evil. We thus engage ourselves, as social beings, in improving ourselves and working towards being instruments in improving the world we live in. Our Faith behooves us not to search for faults in others and we would do well to heed the advice of our Beloved Prophet :
" Part of being a good person is minding your own business."

While the purpose of commanding good and forbidding evil is to correct and restore; fault-finding inevitably leads to undermining the character of people and sometimes to destroying relationships. Prophet Muhammad said:
"The worst of people are those engaged in slandering others, those who ruin relationships between dear ones who try to find fault with innocent people."

"The Prophet also admonished us that "when you pursue the faults of others, you corrupt them" and warned that "those who unduly pursue the shortcomings of others will have their own faults exposed.

" Fault-finding is the habit of the miserable "
Confucius said:
"The great person calls to attention the good points in others while the miserable person calls to attention the defects in others."
(Analects 12:16).

That is perhaps why losers can easily say, "something is wrong" and winners usually say, "how can I correct it". Why losers say, "why don't you do this?" and winners usually say, "Here is something I can do."

Fault-finders normally tell others about someone's faults and rarely have the guts to face people; fitting the description of dhul-wajhayn (two-faced) which the Prophet Muhammad assigned to troublemakers and hypocrites. Fault-finders also tend to be miserable themselves, lacking self-esteem; and since they focus so much on blaming others, they become resentful; and rather than cherish people, tend to develop a desire to undermine and discredit people.

Negativity consumes a person
The negative feelings that a fault-finder harbors regarding others eventually consumes the person and this negativity eventually becomes part of the fault-finder's character. Prophet Muhammad therefore advised us "Refrain from holding bad opinions of people."

Deflecting one's own shortcomings
One of the common ways through which people deflect their own shortcomings and do not face up to their own faults is to blame others. The faults we see may well not be in what we are looking at, but rather in our looking. Prophet 'Isa/Jesus is reported to have said; "why do you look at the little speck in your brother's eye and forget the plank in your own eye". Hadrat 'Ali said: "The worst of people is the person who searches for faults in others while being blind to his own faults". Martin Luther King rightly said: "the highest form of maturity is self inquiry".

Watch your Heart, your Emotions and your Tongue
Speech is projection of thoughts and emotions; the content of speech reflects the culture of the heart, so consider carefully how you feel about others, why you feel the way you feel and what you say about people. Prophet Muhammad said: "None of your faith is correct unless your heart is upright and your heart will not be rectified until your tongue is in order". That is why Allah states in the Quran "speak what is correct, your actions will be rectified and your sins will be forgiven". Since virtually all fault-finding is conveyed verbally, we must be careful of the power of the tongue since wise people caution the fact that affliction caused by the tongue is more severe than the harm caused by the sword. The Prophet also provided a basic rule of good character when he responded to a question regarding salvation. He replied: "It is necessary for you to control your tongue and weep for your own faults".

The prayer of the Prophet is the most appropriate expression for one who introspects and genuinely wishes to be a catalyst for a better world: "O Allah, forgive that which I did secretly and what I did publicly; What I did inadvertently and what I did deliberately; What I did knowingly and what I did out of ignorance".

Always reflect on this advice of the Prophet :
"Glad tidings to the person more concerned about his own faults than bothering about the faults of others".

ANTARTICA - THE WORLD COLDEST PART

COLDEST SPOT OF THE WORLD

The Arctic region is covered with snow and ice almost the whole year. The temperature in the middle of the winter can go down to -51 degree celcius. When it gets this cold frost forms on eyebrows and eyelashes. It is colder than inside a freezer. On August 24, 1960, at the U.S.S.R's Vostok station in Antartica the thermometer dropped to -88.3 degree celcius. That is the cooldest day on record. Ice and snow cover Greenland and the tundra of Canada and Alaska most of the year. The Eskimos who lived in those regions wear multiple layers of coats, trousers, and boots made of animal skins for protection against the extreme cold. In this way people are able to survive even in bitterly cold parts of the world.

English and indigenous languages on Caribbean coast are also spoken.

In Pre-Columbian times the Indigenous people, in what is now known as Nicaragua, were part of the Intermediate Area located between the Mesoamerican and Andean cultural regions.

This has recently been updated to include the influence of the Isthmo-Colombian area. It was the point where the Mesoamerican and South American native cultures met.

This is confirmed by the ancient footprints of Acahualinca, along with other archaeological evidence, mainly in the form of ceramics and statues made of volcanic stone like the ones found on the island of Zapatera and petroglyphs found in Ometepe island.

At the end of the 15th century, western Nicaragua was inhabited by several indigenous peoples related by culture and language to the Mayans. They were primarily farmers who lived in towns, organized into small kingdoms. Meanwhile, the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua was inhabited by indigenous peoples, mostly chibcha related groups, that had migrated from what is now Colombia. They lived a less sedentary life based on hunting and gathering.
The people of eastern Nicaragua appear to have traded with and been influenced by the native peoples of the Caribbean, as round thatched huts and canoes, both typical of the Caribbean, were common in eastern Nicaragua. In the west and highland areas, occupying the territory between Lake Nicaragua and the Pacific Coast, the Niquirano were governed by chief Nicarao, or Nicaragua, a rich ruler who lived in Nicaraocali, now the city of Rivas. The Chorotega lived in the central region of Nicaragua. These two groups had intimate contact with the Spanish conquerors, paving the way for the racial mix of native and European stock now known as mestizos. However, within three decades an estimated Indian population of one million plummeted to a few tens of thousands, as approximately half of the indigenous people in western Nicaragua died from the rapid spread of new diseases brought by the Spaniards, something the indigenous people of the Caribbean coast managed to escape due to the remoteness of the area.

'ANNIE IN THE GRAVE YARD- A POEM

ANNIE IN THE GRAVE YARD
by
Caroline Howard Gilman
(From Verses of a Life-Time, 1848)

She bounded o'er the graves,
With a buoyant step of mirth;
She bounded o'er the graves,
Where the weeping willow waves,
Life a creature not of earth.

Her hair was blown aside,
And her eyes were glittering bright;
Her hair was blown aside,
And her little hands spread wide,
With an innocent delight.

She spelt the lettered word
That registers the dead;
She spelt the lettered word,
And her busy thoughts were stirred
With pleasure as she read.

She stopped and culled a leaf
Left fluttering on a rose;
She stopped and culled a leaf,
Sweet monument of grief,
That in our church-yard grows.

She culled it with a smile -
'Twas near her sister's mound;
She culled it with a smile,
And played with it awhile,
Then scattered it around.

I did not chill her heart,
Nor turn its gush to tears;
I did not chill her heart ---
Oh, bitter drops will start
Full soon in coming years.

'A short poem from an American female poet with ties to both Massachusetts and to South Carolina is Annie In the Graveyard. The poet is Caroline Gilman. Many of the older references to quotable lines includes "She stopped and culled a leaf Left fluttering on a rose" taken from this poem. '

BUILD YOUR HOUSE RIGHT

An elderly carpenter was ready to retire. He told his employer-Contractor of his plans to leave the house-building business and live a more leisurely life with his wife, enjoying his extended family. He would miss the paycheck, but he needed to retire. They could get by. The contractor was sorry to see his good worker go and asked if he could build just one more house as a personal favor. The carpenter said yes, but in time it was easy to see that his heart was not in his work. He resorted to shoddy workmanship and used inferior materials. It was an unfortunate way to end a dedicated career.

When the carpenter finished his work the employer came to inspect the house. He handed the front-door key to the carpenter. "This is your house, he said, "my gift to you. "The carpenter was shocked! What a shame! If he had only known he was building his own house, he would have done it all so differently.

So it is with us. We build our lives, a day at a time, often putting less than our best into the building. Then with a shock we realize we have to live in the house we have built. If we could do it over, we'd do it much differently. But we cannot go back. You are the carpenter. Each day you hammer a nail, place a board, or erect a wall. "Life is a do-it-yourself project," someone has said. Your attitudes and the choices you make today, build the "HOUSE" you live in tomorrow. Build wisely!

"FRIENDSHIP"

'Two old friends meet again wearing older faces
talk about places they’ve been
two old sweethearts fell apart
somewhere along the globe
how are they to know
that someday they’ll meet again
and never need for more than reminicising'.

'Maybe this time
it’ll be love and they’ll find
maybe now they can be more than just friends
she’s back in his life
and it feels so right
maybe this time
love won’t end.'

'It’s the same old feeling back again
it’s the one that they had back when
they were to young to know when love’s real
but somehow some things never change
and even time hasn’t cooled the flame
it’s burning here and brighter than it did before
it got another chance and if they take it.'

'She’s smiling like she used to smile
way back then
he’s feeling like he used to feel
way back when they tried
what something can’t been
waiting for this magic moment .'

A POEM

"The Paradise of the Night
The beauty and the brightness in each and every star
Seems so close and yet so far
The softness and crispness in the cool breeze
The moon shining with grace and ease
Yes it would take years to describe
So wonderful it’s hard to subside
Nature’s artwork a master piece extraordinaire
It makes you want to climb up upon a star-lit stair
Millions of stars expanded like s blanket in the sky
Alarming yet calming such beauty so high…
Such beauty so high."
