IT firms see low or flat salaries for two more years

Against expectations that the job market and compensation levels might begin to show signs of recovery by next year, senior executives in the country's top information technology companies expect compensation levels to remain low over the next two- to three years. "The market is cold and there are fewer jobs, for the next two or three years, salaries will be low," T.V. Mohandas Pai, member of the board and director of human resources at the nation's second largest software exporter Infosys Technologies, told Hindustan Times.

The economic slowdown has adversely affected all sectors, including information technology, which relies heavily on demand in the West, especially the United States, which is India's largest market. "Good people will not be laid off but the key challenge is compensation," Pai said.
Tata Consultancy Services, India's largest software exporter which employs over 1,00,000 people, is also eyeing a scenario where wage hikes will not be significant. "We expect salaries to remain flat in financial year 2010 while demand for specific skill sets will drive salaries over the next two-three years," a TCS spokesperson told Hindustan Times.

However, experts at staffing firms, interpreting industry statements, say IT companies probably do not want to set high expectations for their employees amidst uncertain economic conditions and that the job market might well improve by the end of the year. "We expect the market to improve by the end of the year and organisations probably do not want to raise their employees' expectations," said Rohit Ramani, director at staffing firm EmmayHR, part of the Dutch Randstad group.

A man came over and offered his services as a painter to a female putting petrol in her car and left his card. She said no ,but accepted his card out of kindness and got in the car. The man then got into a car driven by another gentleman As the lady left the service station, she saw the men following her out of the station at the same time. Almost immediately, she started to feel dizzy and could not catch her breath. She tried to open the window and realized that the odour was on her hand; the same hand which accepted the card from the gentleman at the service station.She then noticed the men were immediately behind her and she felt she needed to do something at that moment. She drove into the first driveway and began to honk her horn repeatedly to ask for help. The men drove away but the lady still felt pretty bad for several minutes after she could finally catch her breath. Apparently, there was a substance on the card that could have seriously injured her..This drug is called 'BURUNDANGA' and it is used by people who wish to incapacitate a victim in order to steal from or take advantage of them.This drug is four times more dangerous than the date rap drug and is transferable on simple cards..So take heed and make sure you don't accept cards at any given time alone or from someone on the streets. This applies to those making house calls and slipping you a card when they offer their services.

Mother Teresa

Mother Teresa of Calcutta was a Roman Catholic nun and founder of the 'Missionaries of Charity'.

In 1979 she was awarded the most prestigious prize in the world, the 'Nobel Peace Prize', for her humanitarian work. Her labor made her so worthy that, in reality, she gave honor to the prize, rather than the other way around.

Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu was born in 1910 to Albanian parents in Skopje, which at the time was under the rule of the Ottoman Empire. (The city is now the capital of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.) When she was 18, she entered the Order of the Sisters of Our Lady of Loreto in Ireland.

She trained in Dublin and in Darjeeling, India, before taking her religious vows in 1937. She took the name Teresa from Saint Teresa of Lisieux, the patron saint of foreign missionaries.In September 1946, while riding in a train from Calcutta to Darjeeling to engage in 8 days of spiritual exercises, she received a divine calling from God “to serve Him amongst the poorest of the poor”.

She served as principal of a Roman Catholic high school in Calcutta, and was moved by the presence of the sick and dying on the city’s streets. In 1948 she was granted permission to leave her post at the convent and begin a ministry among the sick. That same year she became an Indian citizen.In 1950 Mother Teresa and her associates were approved within the archdiocese of Calcutta as the Missionaries of Charity.

The order was later recognized as a pontifical congregation under the jurisdiction of Rome. Members of the congregation take four vows on acceptance by the religious community.

In addition to the three basic vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience, a fourth vow is required pledging service to the poor, whom Mother Teresa described as the embodiment of Christ.In 1952 Mother Teresa opened the Nirmal Hriday (Pure Heart) Home for Dying Destitutes in Calcutta. She and her fellow nuns took in dying Indians off the streets of Calcutta and brought them to this home to care for them during the days before they died, so that they might be able to die in peace and with dignity.In serving the people abandoned by society, Mother Teresa put love into action.

Her spirit of giving inspired many to follow her, and her work eventually expanded to many other parts of the world. Today over 5000 sisters, brothers, and volunteers run approximately 500 centers worldwide, feeding 500,000 families and helping 90,000 lepers every year.

In recognition of her efforts, Mother Teresa was bestowed many awards, including the Padma Shri award for distinguished service in 1962, The Pope John XXIII Peace Prize in 1971, the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979, the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1985, and the Congressional Gold Medal in 1997. Mother Teresa accepted all awards on behalf of the poor, using any money that accompanied them to fund her centers.

Mother Teresa was forced to scale back her activities in 1990 because of declining health. On March 13 1997, she stepped down as head of the order and Sister Nirmala was chosen to succeed her as leader of the Missionaries of Charity.On September 5, 1997, at the age of 87, the best loved woman of the century passed away. Her funeral service was on September 13, 1997, the 51st anniversary of her receiving her divine mission from God.

The late night/early morning from 12.00am onwards the Music played by the team called ‘Indian Ocean’.

It was very well play by the musician. They all seem to be masters in Singing, playing instruments and oration What to say good at everthing. It was really a mesmerizing performance. My sincere applause to each one of the musician from Indian Ocean team.

They gave us a nice beads of music’s Right from Kabir poetry to Sufism poetry…and beyond. it was totally conveying the existential matters…great to listen to it.. Their performance really touched my heart. I was not able to capture the whole meaning of the songs/poetry, but still was in a position to capture the whole mood of the music’s. Thanks to ‘Isha Foundation’ for had been given us such a rare chance to experience the mystical music’s.

I just love to hear from each one of them. They way they sing, dance, percussion, organizing and leading the team with the audience…simply superp…it was philosohphical too.

Great synchronizations in music and with these musician that really brought out the divinity from within..among the listeners..probably that only was made to ask once more even by ’sadguru jaggi’ Such a wonderful mix of song selection around the nation which is far ancient. Still made us to attain a great heights..My appreciation is not enough. So brought some to your attention from the web source about them.

Indian Ocean to compose music for Aamir Khan venture
Popular band Indian Ocean, which changed the course of contemporary fusion music in India with its album ‘Kandisa’, has been experimenting with Bollywood music and its latest project is in a film being produced by Aamir Khan.
“We are composing three songs for a film which is being directed by a newcomer called Anusha and will be produced by Aamir Khan,” Amit Kilam, the group’s drummer, told us.

After receiving rave reviews for its unique style of music, Indian Ocean entered Bollywood with Anurag Kashyap’s controversial film ‘Black Friday’.

Even though the music was completely out of the league and unusual, it was highly appreciated, especially the song “Bande”.

The group is also composing music for ‘Mumbai Cutting’ and ‘Bhoomi’.

“‘Mumbai Cutting’ is a compilation of 12 short films on Mumbai and we have done one song for Anurag Kashyap’s short film,” Kilam said.

“We are also composing music for a new film ‘Bhoomi’ currently under production. We are supposed to compose six songs for the film,” he added.

Rahul Ram anchors Indian Ocean along with Sushmit Sen on the guitars. While Asheem Chakraborty plays the tabla, the versatile Kilam accompanies on the drums and many other forms of percussion as well as vocals.

Kilam said it was a good time to create music in Bollywood as it was going through a transitional phase and becoming more open to unconventional tunes.

“Bollywood is opening doors and using different sorts of music a lot more than before,” he said.

“Since the reach of the industry is tremendous, when Hindi films use composers like us or other young bands and young singers, then the kind of music we create has a bigger chance to reach out to more people,” Kilam added.

Indian Ocean’s genesis dates back to 1990 when it came out with its first album. In 18 years, it has brought out four albums - ‘Indian Ocean’, ‘Desert Rain’, ‘Kandisa’ and ‘Jhini’.

The band has also performed in London, at the New Zealand Arts Festival, Melbourne Arts Festival, Smithsonian Folk Life Festival (Washington), Tokyo, Indonesia, Germany, Singapore, Italy and Dubai.
